My Story

Making Money Simple

I live in rural Suffolk with my wife, our two daughters, and our two dogs.

My passion is to inspire and help as many people as possible live a meaningful, fulfilling and authentic life, free from financial worry, complexity and mediocrity.

I joined the financial services sector in 1990 and am a Chartered Fellow of both the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and the Personal Finance Society.

In 1998 I founded Bloomsbury Wealth Management and built this to become a highly respected and successful wealth advice ‘boutique’, which has been regularly named as among the Top 25 financial advisory firms by Private Client Practitioner magazine. In 2012 I was recognised by Citywire as one of the UK’s top 100 financial advisers.

In September 2015 I sold my stake in Bloomsbury to the other shareholders, to enable me to focus entirely on speaking and writing about financial and personal wellbeing, as well as being an angel investor to various innovative financial technology start-up businesses.

I am author of editions 1 (2011) and 2 (2014) of The Financial Times Guide to Wealth Management: How to plan, invest and protect your financial assets. I am co-author (with Dr Lien Luu CFP, Jonquil Lowe and Antony Bryne CFP) of Essential Personal Finance – A practical guide for students (2017).

My first self-development book – Squeezing the Orange: Simple ways to live a full life– was published in summer 2017. Money Moments: Simple steps to financial well-being– was published in November 2017. My latest book (with Jonquil Lowe and Lien Luu) - Essential Personal Finance: A practical guide for employees - was published in January 2019.

I am a columnist for the The Financial Times, where as ‘The Wealthman’, I write about personal finance related issues. I also provide expert comment on personal finance to the BBC and Sky and a range of other publications, media and websites.

I am Head of Financial Education at Salary Finance, the workplace financial wellbeing provider, and through my consultancy Generation Next, each year I help a handful of wealthy families to improve their communication, harmony and unity so that heirs are prepared to receive their future financial inheritance.
